LALI SHIBALTA

During her on-going artistic exploration, Eulàlia Ribalta, aka Lali Shibalta, has had many colourful adventures. Born in Sabadell (Barcelona), Eulàlia’s family encouraged her to pursue an artistic career from a very early age. She began studying classical dance and spent time at the prestigious Royal Dance Academy of London. She then moved on to funk, jazz and tao dance. Dancing, however, wasn’t the only thing this talented artist was good at; she also showed great musical promise and studied music theory and the cello. Later on, she also added the Lecoq Technique and gestural theatre to her bag of tricks, thus acquiring a comprehensive and multifaceted foundation in the performing arts.

She then embarked on her professional career. But she soon found that she needed something more. She needed to travel, see the world from different vantage points and acquire different kinds of knowledge. The opportunity to go to India arose, so Eulàlia packed her bags and spent two six-month periods studying Bhartanatyam and Mohiniatam traditional dance and theatre and the martial art Kalari Paiatu with Mary John at the Kalatalangini School. She also travelled around the country, immersing herself in its culture and daily life. During this time, Eulàlia was offered the chance to go to Mumbai for three months to work as a dancer in Bollywood films. Upon her return to Spain, Eulàlia sought and found plenty of opportunities to share the knowledge she had acquired and show others the beauty and complexity of this dance.

International Alternative Theatre Festival of Croatia (Fakki) in Zagreb, touring with the play Refugees by Bertolt Brecht, with the Laboratory Theater Company (2006)

La Màscara Company with the show El Reparador de Somnis (gestural theatre), performances throughout Catalonia and at the Theatre Fair in Tàrrega (2003- 2004)
